I am very excited to announce that I have found employment in India! I will be working for Drishtee in the business development department at the headquarters in New Delhi.
Drishtee helps rural Indian villages gain access to goods and information through village kiosks run and managed by local entrepreneurs. Drishtee seeks to strengthen local village economies in a sustainable manner. The supply chain model used by Drishtee bridges the gap created by companies that have ignored rural villages deemed to be too small or too difficult to reach. Drishtee focuses on delivering telecom and Internet connectivity, health care, consumer goods, education services, and banking directly to villages.
In my interview with Drishtee I expressed a desire to work in strategy, finance, and marketing, and together we decided business development would be the best fit. My main responsibility will be to identify and create additional partnerships with bigger companies so that their goods and services can be made available to villages through the Drishtee supply chain. So, if you know of a business that could benefit from access to rural India, let me know.
I learned of Drishtee through Ashoka which is an organization that identifies and supports social entrepreneurs all over the world. Drishtee became involved with Ashoka when it’s founder, Satyan Mishra, was elected an Ashoka Fellow in 2004. Drishtee has also received many distinctions from The World Economic Forum, the Schwab Foundation, Deloitte, Red Herring, and others. I am excited to join such a distinguished company and one that I feel really understands long-term sustainable development. Drishtee is well positioned to harness the tremendous opportunity that India’s burgeoning domestic economy represents and I am thrilled to be a part of that. I am also excited to gain international experience in emerging markets and building partnerships with larger, more established players. Understanding these markets and gaining skills in building sustainable partnerships will be invaluable in whatever field I go into.
